We care enough to protect your most important technology property.

patent

When you want to protect a novel invention so that you can exploit it in the marketplace, you need the law of patent in order to create a legal monopoly. In order to be represented in submitting your invention application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), your representative must be registered to practice before the USPTO. Dan Richardson is a registered patent attorney. He is fully qualified to prepare, submit and prosecute your invention application with the USPTO.

trademark

When you want to protect your business name, a name you market goods or services under or a phrase you use to sell something with,  you are in the area of trademark law.  If you're new to this area, you might want to look at my trademark law tip sheet which goes into a little more detail with some helpful suggestions. I assist clients in obtaining federal registrations for their trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office as well as pursuing litigation on their behalf to assert and protect their rights in trademarks.

copyright

Copyright law will protect any creative work which is fixed in a tangible medium of expression, e.g. printed text, digital text, graphics, artwork, photographic images, video, film and audio recordings. Copyright is federal law and does not protect ideas, methods and procedures, or short terms and phrases (see my summary sheet on trademark law for the latter). If you want more details in this area, please see my copyright law tip sheet.

internet disputes

The Internet is all about intellectual property, and there are many types of disputes between website owners and website users. These disputes get complicated very quickly, and can involve: domain name disputes, copyright infringements, eCommerce, contracts and trademark law.

computer law

So what is computer law, you might ask? Well, attorneys needed to put a label on the area of law that involves the use of or is related to computers; such as, copyrights for computer software, internet disputes, data base development and ownership issues, software licensing, information technology, computer crime, and on ... The problem you face in getting legal advice you can rely on with computer law is that you really need someone who understands both the technology involved as well as the legal issues related to the technology. I have over 20 years experience working in the computer business, and over 10 years working as an attorney.
